What is an Iqama?

An Iqama is a residence permit issued to foreign workers in Saudi Arabia. It acts as your official identification card and is required to live, work, and access services legally in the Kingdom. Your Iqama contains key details such as your:

  • Full name
  • Job title
  • Sponsor/employer name
  • Nationality
  • Iqama number and expiration date

Without an Iqama, you cannot legally work, open a bank account, or even get a SIM card in Saudi Arabia.

Why is the Iqama Important?

Legal Residency: Proof that you're authorized to live and work in Saudi Arabia.​

How to Obtain an Iqama: 

1. Job Offer and Visa Processing

Your Saudi employer applies for a work visa on your behalf.​
After approval, you'll receive a visa to enter Saudi Arabia.​

2. Arrival in Saudi Arabia

Enter the country using your work visa.​
Undergo a medical examination at an authorized clinic.

3. Iqama Application

Within 90 days of arrival, your employer must apply for your Iqama.

Valid passport
Medical report
Employment contract
Photographs

4. Issuance of Iqama

Once approved, you'll receive your Iqama card.​
Ensure to carry it with you at all times as it's your primary identification in Saudi Arabia.​


Costs Involved

Iqama Fee: SAR 650 per year.​
Work Permit Fee: SAR 800 per month.​
Dependent Fee: SAR 400 per month for each dependent.​

Renewing Your Iqama
